Goalie Magnus Chrona stopped 32 shots to lead the Admirals to a 4-1 win over the Manitoba Moose Saturday at Canada Life Centre.
The win was Milwaukee’s eighth straight. The Admirals (8-1-0-0) are in first place in the Central Division of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Chrona entered the game with a 1.67 goals against average and lowered that with another strong game. Chrona turned aside 12 shots in the first period and another 11 in the second as the Admirals built an insurmountable lead.
Milwaukee scored the first goal with another power play tally at 6:14 of the first period. Cal O’Reilly slid a pass along the goal line from the right circle to Fedor Svechkov in the left circle. Svechkov pushed the puck toward the net and the puck ricocheted into the cage off a Moose defender. Svechkov’s third goal of the season, second on the power play, was assisted by O’Reilly and Joakim Kemell.
Manitoba tied the game at 14:42 of the first period. Chrona went behind his net to play the puck. He passed it along the left wing boards right to Moose forward Henri Nikkanen, who promptly shot the puck into the empty net to make the score 1-1.
The Admirals took the lead back at 8:35 of the second frame. Milwaukee worked the puck around int he offensive zone, culminating with Jake Lucchini’s first goal in an Admirals sweater. The puck moved from the right circle to left for Vinnie Hinostroza. Hinostroza touched a pass to Kevin Gravel at the middle of the blue line. Gravel’s slap shot was deflected into the net off Lucchini for the 2-1 lead. The assist was the 100th career American Hockey League point for Gravel. Hinostroza also assisted on the tally, giving him an eight-game points streak and a league-leading 15 points in nine games.
In the third period Hinostroza scored an empty-net goal at 17:20, assisted by Ozzy Wiesblatt and Reid Schaefer. Navrin Mutter then scored his first of the season with an empty-netter at 18:04.
The Admirals return home to host Chicago Sat., Nov. 9 at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
