Milwaukee, WI—The Admirals saw their six-game winning streak snapped in a 6-4 loss to the Laval Rocket on Saturday night at Panther Arena.
This marked the third time this season that the Ads have posted a winning streak of six games. Most impressive about their most recent streak was that five of those games came on the road. The loss, coupled with a win by Texas, has the Ads back in second place in the division one points behind the Stars with a game in hand.
Anthony Angello extended his point streak to four games with his fifth goal as an Admiral to put the team up 1-0 at 9:36 of the first. The play started when Captain Cole Schneider picked the puck up off the wall deep in the Rocket zone and drove to the net where he found an open Angello just below the left hashmarks where his one-timer got by Cayden Primeau.
The Rocket tied the scored at one with just over five minutes left in the first on a power-play tally by former Admiral Gabriel Bourque.
However, Tommy Apap regained the lead with just 1:57 to go in the opening frame as he took a touch pass from Tye Felhaber when they entered the Rocket zone and then fired a shot from the right dot over the shoulder of Primeau.
The Rocket tied the game at two with another power-play marker, this one at 7:42 of the second off a one-timer from the right circle by Emil Heineman.
Milwaukee grabbed their third and final lead of the game on Navrin Mutter’s first pro goal 59 seconds after the Rocket tied the game. Joakim Kemell got loose on a partial breakaway, but was stymied by Primeau. However, Mutter was right there on the doorstep to roof the puck and put the Ads up 3-2.
Unfortunately for the Admirals, Laval would scored the next three goals, tying the game on Pierrick Dube’s 12th of the season 25 seconds into the third. Anthony Richard, who played nearly 300 games over six seasons with the Ads, picked up the game winner for the Rocket on a shorthanded breakaway that just barely snuck through the legs of Ads netminder Devin Cooley at 4:46 of the third.
Dube’s second of the game gave the Rocket an insurance goal at 9:41 of the final stanza that they would need because Tye Felhaber picked up a power-play goal with 56.2 seconds remaining when he deflected a Jordan Gross shot to make it 5-4.
That’s as close as the Ads would get, however, as Olivier Galipeau scored in an empty Milwaukee net with 22 seconds left to bring the score to 6-4.
The Admirals look to get back on the winning track as they wrap up a three-in-three weekend by heading to Chicago tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm against the Wolves. The Ads next home game is next Wednesday, April 5th, also against the Wolves, at 7 pm at Panther Arena.
